Groningen Airport Eelde, which has been in use since 1931, is 15km south of central Groningen, along the A28 highway. After several years of decline, the runway was extended to allow Ryanair flights to land and recent years have shown record numbers with over 200,000 passengers passing though. The airport is served by Ryanair, Transavia and Corendon. Taxis charge a fixed fee of €30 to the airport, €55 if you book a return trip. We recommended you call ahead. Hertz and Europcar offer car rental. Bus N°2 goes from Groningen Central Station to the airport twice per hour, once an hour on Sundays; the ride takes 40 minutes and costs €5. The Airportliner express bus service (tel. (+31) 592 40 99 05) runs between the city centre (Martini Hotel and Central Station) and the airport in 20 minutes to meet Ryanair flights. Tickets cost €4.
