Agios Minas Cathedral

There are several churches in Heraklion. The one that is a must-visit is named after St. Minas, the martyr saint that is also considered the patron of the town. The magnificent Agios Minas Cathedral is not only among the architectural beauties of the largest Crete city but is also an active location for worship and prayer. The building process took place for more than three decades in the late 19th century when the island was still under the Ottoman rule. The Orthodox church serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Crete.
