Hamburg’s Außenalster announced its presence as early as the thirteenth century and has long become one of the defining sights of the city. There is even a “Alsterwasser” drink named after it. On a nice day the river (note that it is not a lake) is full of sailboats, canoes and paddleboats. The parks surrounding it provide all visitors with a beautiful view of the water from land. Take advantage of a guided tour of the river and its connecting canals.
