Despite what images the name may conjure up, Łapalice Castle is not a medieval or renaissance construction. Starting construction in 1979, the development belonged to the Gdańsk sculptor Piotr Kazimierczak, and apparently the DA was approved on for a single-family house + studio building permit. However, like a game of Jenga getting out of hand, the brick building eventually increased from 170 m2 to 5,000 m2. The overly ambitious project eventually halted due to a lack of funds and it was never recommenced. Despite being unfinished, it remains as the biggest building in Kashubia! Stylistically, it resembles a Renaissance residence, enriched by towers, a chapel, and a subterranean area intended either for a pool or a lake basin. Whilst the project had problems with solvency, creditors and construction supervision, other factors to the projects halt include the suspension of electricity supply by the local power plant and then damage to the Kazimierczak furniture company, the principal source of financing, by the Polish floods of 2001.
