Birthplace of Frankfurt's most famous poet and writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Frankfurters hold mixed opinions of Goethe, who declined to keep his citizenship of the city when he moved away from it. There's more to see in the Haus than in the museum; reconstructed in the 1950s, the timber-framed Goethe Haus contains items just like those that filled it when the wealthy Goethe family lived there. Via a small garden you walk to the museum, which contains a library of the writer's works. Call in advance to arrange tours in English.
