Where to find Monet’s art in Paris

more than a year ago
No trip to Paris is complete without admiring Monet’s magnificent works of art, which are on display in many museums in the city. One of the most famous French painters and founders of the 19th-century impressionist movement, Oscar-Claude Monet was born in 1840, in Paris. He progressed from drawing funny caricatures of his loved ones to capturing the elusive nuances of natural scenes in a variety of attitudes of colour and light. He forged a totally new direction for the world of art thanks to his unique perception of the natural world.

He created some of the most beautiful masterpieces of Impressionism, including "Water Lilies," "Haystacks Series," "Houses of Parliament Series," "Poplar Series," "San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk," "Camille or the Woman in the Green Dress," and "Bain à la Grenouillère." The painter spent about 43 years (from 1883 to his death in 1926) living in a house he had built in the peaceful locality of Giverny. His fascinating house and gardens inspired him to create some of his greatest paintings.

Today, the house and gardens attract many visitors every year, who come to explore his decorated rooms, enjoy his Japanese Print Collection, or witness his source of inspiration. A visit to Monet’s house and gardens makes for a perfect day trip from Paris. Just keep in mind that they are closed between November and April.

Many museums and galleries in the city are also home to his stunning paintings where you can experience the famous impressionist painter up close. Some of these museums and galleries include the Musée Marmottan Monet, the Musée de l’Orangerie, the Musée d’Orsay, and Le Petit Palais.
