Senate Square

Dominated by four impressive buildings, like the Helsinki Cathedral, the National Library of Finland, the Government Palace, and the main building of the University of Helsinki, the Senate Square is a striking example of Neoclassical architecture and one of the oldest parts of the Finnish capital. It is actually the historical heart of the city. In the middle of the square, you will find the beautiful statue of Alexander II. Despite the old age of the square, there’s always a modern vibe present, which enlivens the atmosphere for both locals and visitors. And with its outstanding outdoor and recreational events, like snow-boarding exhibitions and concerts, the square is one of the most important cultural hubs in Finland.
