Thought by many to be the Baltics’ most dazzling wine bar, Vixen indeed dazzles with its unmatched selection of wines and its casual chic atmosphere. Located on a quiet lane of the Old Town near the Fat Margaret tower, this slightly subterranean vinoteek (wine bar and shop) offers warming drinks and cozy shelter in winter and an outside “rosé garden” in summer with pink wines from around the world and a view of St. Olaf’s famous church spire.

Vixen offers a curated selection of wines by the glass—a testament to its talented sommeliers, who know just what to put on the daily glass list and what to recommend to guests. The bottle list is no less impressive, featuring an international selection of vintages worthy of a Wine Spectator award. No wonder, as Vixen’s owner, California sommelier Jennifer Mitchell, was the first in Estonia to receive the Wine Spectator award, for a wine list she crafted at a nearby hotel several years ago.

Because Vixen imports many of its own wines, its shelves are stocked with bottles seen nowhere else in the region. Likewise, Vixen’s specialty cocktails are conceived in house and won’t be found in other bars. A thoughtful choice of beers and spirits rounds out the drinks list.

Although without a full kitchen, Vixen treats guests to a menu of modest dishes and snacks meant to accompany the wines. The de rigueur offering of cheeses and meats goes beyond the usual, with everything chosen from top international suppliers, sliced on the premises and presented just so. Those looking to celebrate need look no further, as Vixen supplies you with top-notch champagnes and caviar.

Vixen hosts private soirées as well as regular events, including wine tastings and holiday gatherings. For regular days, it's a good idea to book ahead to ensure a table.
