Explore the world of theatre in the Museum of Puppetry Arts. Located in the outskirts of the Tallinn Old Town, the Museum of Puppetry Arts takes visitors behind the scenes of theatre, introducing most widespread puppet types in Estonia and offering activities for visitors of all ages.
Exhibits in the Museum of Puppetry Arts are not only to be looked at. In each room, there are activities that visitors can try out themselves. Children explore the history of puppet theatre through playful tasks, while parents get a more thorough overview of the development of puppetry in Estonia.
In the room introducing glove and rod puppets, the newest exhibition Guess Who It Is describes how a character’s appearance gives clues to their personality and origin. Visitors can play with puppets created specially for the exhibition and guess which emotions they embody. Museum visitors can also animate marionettes and shadow puppets. Working together, they can bring to life a tabletop puppet that requires three people to animate it – this creates an opportunity to experience as a family the importance of cooperation and consideration for each other.
One of the most memorable moments of a museum visit is walking on a glass bridge with a view of a 7-metre-tall puppet. The Museum of Puppetry Arts offers quality time than engages both younger family members as well as adults.
