One of the more famous sons of Pärnu, the Baltic-German Richmann (1711 - 1753) was an early pioneer in the study of electricity. While working in St. Petersburg, he managed to have a rare, close encounter with lightning and unfortunately didn't live to tell the tale. This likeness of his head (pre-zap) honours his life and contribution to science. Note that, at night, his eyes light up in a highly creepy fashion.
