Bombed Out Church hero image

This 19th century Gothic Revival beaut is officially known as the Church of St. Luke, but you won’t find anyone in Liverpool calling it that. This is the Bombed Out Church, probably the most ‘what it says on the tin’ tourist attraction in the United Kingdom. The church was heavily damaged in 1941 during the city’s May Blitz, set alight by an incendiary device leaving only the outer walls. The city decided to leave it as it is, an homage to that terrible conflict, a haunting memory of times long gone. Concerts and events are occasionally held inside, although the church itself is largely a meeting point in the modern age, a beautiful, beautiful meeting point.
