The first record of Zruč dates back to 1328. The town began to flourish in the second half of the 16th century, when the Zruč estate was acquired by the Kalenice family. In 1561, Zruč was promoted to a town with full privileges. In 1885, the Schebek family bought the Zruč estate. Baron Adolf Schebek, a railway engineer, contributed to the total reconstruction of the chateau as well as the construction of local railways.
Today Zruč attracts visitors mainly with its reconstructed pseudo-gothic chateau, which is open daily, including Mondays, to the public in season (May-September), or on request in low season. Visitors can see the renovated interiors or ascend the chateau tower. Girls will be delighted by the permanent exhibition of the Kingdom of Dolls and Teddy Bears and boys can have fun in the moat along the trail of Knight Milota Kolowrata. The Regional Museum offers the exhibition “From the Workbench to Bata” mapping the development of the cobbler craft in the town.
