Croatian Michelin Stars Restaurants

26 Apr 2024

Overlooked and underrated, no more. Croatia is firmly ensconced at the top table of European dining, and its growing roster of Michelin Star restaurants is pushing the envelope with every delicious dish. At the time of writing, 10 incredible restaurants around the country have been adorned with that prestigious honour, and you’ll find each below. If you’re looking for the ultimate fine dining tour of this fabulous country, look no further.

LD Restaurant

LD Restaurant, nestled in the Lešić Dimitri Palace in Korčula, is a testament to the mastery of head chef Marko Gajski. He breathes new life into traditional coastal dishes, creating a menu that dances with the seasons of Korčula. The stunning setting and the culinary artistry inspire a sense of wonder and anticipation from the moment you arrive until long after the bill is paid.

Restaurant Alfred Keller

With a Michelin Star and masses of Gault&Millau points in the bag, Alfred Keller builds on its success with an ambition that borders on obsession. The finest ingredients available on Lošinj are filtered through elite technical ability to create some of the best food in Croatia, marrying French class with Dalmatian flavours and a thrilling commitment to innovation. The results are extraordinary (as is the wine list).

Agli Amici

Rovinj’s marina is a setting worthy of Michelin Star cuisine, and world-class Italian chef Emanuele Scarello is synonymous with food of the finest order. The Michelin accolade came within a year of the restaurant’s opening, capping off a whirlwind ride from conception to completion that has turned Rovinj’s dining scene on its head. The restaurant’s two tasting menus (Agli Amici and Istria) are rollercoasters in their own right, emphasising sophisticated simplicity and inspiring excitement with every single bite.

Pelegrini

Occupying a renovated medieval building, just up the steps from Šibenik Cathedral, a Michelin Star owner Pelegrini offers a winning blend of bare-stone historical authenticity and contemporary design cool. They create personalised high-end gastronomic experiences, rich with flavours and aromas of gastronomic heritage. Dishes are made using local ingredients and fresh seafood, while sommeliers create daily wine selections to best fit the season and condition of each wine. Menu is 4 courses. Tasting menu is available upon request.

Boškinac

This eloquent family estate with a hotel, winery, and a Michelin Star owner restaurant on the island of Pag is the perfect getaway for a tranquil holiday. We kid you not, they pay attention to every detail. Elegant rooms, a succulent and exclusive menu with many fresh island ingredients. 5 and 8 courses menus available. Pricey but worthy! The konoba (tavern) has excellent cheese, prosciutto and sardines (Open 12:00 - 23:00, closed Mon.).

Restaurant 360

When it comes to restaurants in Dubrovnik, 360 is a culinary dream. Nestled within the famous walls, it sets the stage for a most enchanting dinner. Yet, it's the symphony of flavours that truly captivates, perfectly harmonising with the beauty of the surroundings. Diners are presented with a choice of two five-course tasting menus or abbreviated versions on the a la carte menu, each a compelling journey. Dubrovnik-born-and-raised chef Marijo Curić is the mastermind behind this culinary delight.

Korak

Located on the family-run winery of the same name, Korak is a gorgeous celebration of farm-to-table ethos, serving delicious food in a stunning setting. Does it get any better? No, it doesn't, but that doesn't mean Korak is resting on its laurels. Quite the opposite, in fact, and the young team is committed to drawing every last morsel of magic out of local produce and flavour. Five and eight-course menus are available, and the wine pairings are every bit as perfect as you'd assume from this place.

Monte

The best food always has an element of home about it. Monte takes this to heart, and the delicious dishes here are prepared and served in the courtyard of chef Danijel Đekić’s birth house. With its story dating to 1985, the restaurant was the first in Croatia to receive a Michelin Star, and its commitment to quality ensures its position in the upper echelons of regional dining to this day. Everything here is in its proper place, from the constantly innovative cuisine to impeccable wine selection and beyond.

Noel

A warm, cosy and welcoming, Noel sits neatly on a corner, hidden among the maze of small streets just north of Home of HDLU. To try and list the kind of dishes available here would take far too much time and space, but then the restaurant knows this all too well and offers diners the option of 6-course vegetarian menu and 6-course chef's menu so that you can sample as much as possible.
