Did you know that Croatia was one of the first countries in the world to have its own national mountaineering association? Well, now you do, and 2024 marks its 150th anniversary. What better way to celebrate the landmark than by heading out for a hike? The birthday celebrations will include 150 special hiking trips, and a special postage stamp will also be issued to mark the occasion. The stamp will feature a shot of Klek mountain, where the association was started all those years ago.
Nice addition to celebrations is the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service's application and interactive map of the country, allowing prospective hikers to plan forthcoming trips in detail. The service covers everything you could need, allowing hikers to create routes and explore every step along the way, from the terrain and trails to safe routes, facilities, peaks, climbing areas and much more.
