Although the present church has its origins in the 16th century, most of the current building, located in the old Jewish quarter at the northern end of the Stone Bridge, dates from around 1886. The relatively dark and unremarkable interior was subject to a supposed miracle during Easter 2012 when the frescos, darkened by decades of accumulated candle smoke, began returning to their original bright state, a cause of continued speculation and probably the result of increased humidity.
