At the bottom of the 'Wielkie Schody' (Great Stairs) descending from the market square behind the tourist information office, you'll find 'the Burek' - Tarnów's primary marketplace. At the intersection of numerous trade routes, this legendary merchant square dates back centuries, arguably serving as the social centre of the city more so than the Rynek. In fact, in the mid-19th century two churches and a hospital for the poor were torn down to accommodate its expansion. Recently modernised, and now home to the handsome and whimsical Organ Grinder monument, today the primary commodities of the Burek are the same as they've always been: local, home-grown fruit and vegetables, fresh meat and flowers. Here we list the official opening hours, but honestly, vendors come and go as they please.
