To count the amazing burgers of Bucharest is to count the stars in the sky. Almost every restaurant in the city now serves at least one (invariably enormous) burger, while many offer a wide range of beefy treats. Specialist burger bars cater to a young burgerarti who pick and choose their buns with the same care others select vintage wine. There are blogs galore which chronicle every new venue, every new burger, every new sauce. It can all be a little overwhelming for the uninitiated, which is why we have put together a list of our favourite Bucharest burger joints.

Do we have an absolute favourite?  For old times sake - because it was just about the first truly great burger ever served in Bucharest - we would have to pick the original Hilton burger at the Café Athénée, even if, at 72 lei, it is a touch on the pricey side. When it comes to best value, the classic burger at Burger Peter (just 24 lei) is hard to beat, not least as the fries are as good as the burger (not always the case, even at the specialist burger bars). We are also rather fond of the hangover burger at Modelier, not least as we live just around the corner and regularly spend our hungover Sunday afternoons at the place.
