For centuries, Trebinje was known as a city where all faiths came to live in peace, so it is no great surprise to find all different types of churches in and around town. The main Catholic house of worship is the city centre Cathedral of the Holy Mother of God, built in 1884. The regional diocese is actually one of the oldest in the region, getting its first mention in 1022.
