One of the finest fortifications in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Doboj Fortress, (or Gradina, if you’re on first-name terms) offers tremendous views of the city and no small amount of opportunities for a little bit of daydreaming. Stone defences have been here since the 13th century, but this place really took on its noted form at the beginning of the 15th, just in time for the Ottomans to come in and take over for, oh, I don’t know, a few centuries. It became a position of major importance for the Ottomans and the Habsburgs alike, leading to many conflicts and the occasional being burnt to the ground. The fortress is in fantastic condition today, with new archeological finds turning up all the time.
