Approximately 15 kilometres southeast of Strumica in the small village of Bankso is a natural spring that produces and endless stream of warm water ranging in temperature from around +47ºC to +72ºC. Near its source are the remains of a Roman bath or spa dating from the 2nd century AD and comprised of 11 rooms complete with surviving parts of a hypocaust heating system, massage room and other facilities. Discovered by accident during the construction of a hotel in 1978, there’s also a few remains of a similar Ottoman-era hamam nearby.
