The Velardo family immigrated to Australia from their native Naples all the way back in 1980, and their Alfresco restaurant in Surfers Paradise has become a local institution since it first opened its doors a quarter of a century ago. But it's not just longevity that keeps the family-run restaurant packed on a nightly basis, as the pizza, pasta and other authentic Italian dishes speak for themselves, while the genuinely warm and friendly service is second to none, and the main ingredient in each is dish is proudly proclaimed to be 'amore' (love). Reservations are recommended, unless you'd like an excuse to sample a grappa or two and chat with the owner while you wait to be seated.
