Wildly popular in the communist years when it was embraced as Shkodra's city beach, Shiroka is still essentially a fishing village that does tourism on the side, catering to summer day trippers who come for the beach, a stroll, perhaps a boat or waterbike trip, and a meal at one of the many restaurants. Overlooking the outflow of Lake Shkodra into the Buna river, there's plenty of wildlife in the reeds and marshes here, and the Tarabosh mountain behind has pine forests and fresh air.
