Lucerne

Beer from Lucerne

more than a year ago
Lucerne's most famous beer brand is Eichhof, which is brewed on the outskirts of the city and used to be the third bigest brewery in the country. It was controversially taken over by dutch brewery Heineken in 2008 and continues to produce mainly mainstream lagers. This takeover together with the growing glocalization trend opened up the market for new innovative brewers to make their name.

Luzerner Bier

City-based Luzerner Bier was founded in 2009 and follow the German Reinheitsgebot, rules for the purity of beer. It uses local ingredients and produces its beer in the city. The have a selection of their original lager beer, seasonal beers and a wheat beer. Also on offer is beer shampoo, Lucerne single malt whisky, tours of their brewery and a bicycle courier delivery service.

Lozärner Bier

Lozärner beer (yep, not the same!) on the otherhand until recently was brewed in Bern, has since moved its production and offices to Lucerne and offers a classic light lager and a wheat beer.

There are several other regional breweries and restaurants and bars in the city are increasingly offering these beers as part of their selection. If you you like micro breweries, then check out the Rathaus Brauerei or Stadtkeller in the old town. If you are looking to buy either local or international speciality beers, then the Drinks of the World shop located downstairs in the main train station has the best stock.
