The 'Olle Grieze' or 'old grey one' is Groningen's landmark monument. The 97 metre high church tower dates back to the 15th century, and can be climbed up to just below the top, where the carillon bells hang. For the math freaks among us: its exactly 370 steps to the top, although the viewpoint at 56 meters is only a mere 251 steps. Tickets for the tower are for sale at the VVV tourist information office. The tower is closed on most public holidays and if the weather is bad; call the tourist office to check.
