If the beautiful, small fortification town of IJsselstein was any closer to Utrecht it would probably be crawling with thousands of tourists. Thankfully, if you stay at Hotel Epping right in the heart of this historic open-air museum of sorts you'll pretty much have the place to yourself. Not unlike the town, this small hotel is also a treasure that's been run by the same family for four generations. The interior of the place could definitely use an upgrade, but perhaps that's all part of its charm. We recommend a meal in the restaurant to truly appreciate the full measure of the family's devotion to hospitality.
