If you've never been to a so-called 'brown bar' in the Netherlands, this is your chance to experience this little slice of Dutch culture. This ancient bar might not be your first choice, and it wasn't ours either, but the atmosphere in this bar is actually what older Dutch people appreciate when they go out for a beer or a chat. The red carpet, the outdated green curtains and the German schlagers are all part and parcel this unique Dutch ambience. That said, billiard lovers will go nuts here as De Windhoek has six tables to choose from. We appreciated the genuine service with a smile and the Van Dobben kroket snack was one of the best we've tasted in Utrecht.
