The Parade is a summer festival for theatre-goers and music lovers, which draws huge crowds every year. The idea is simple. You pay a €7 admission fee and then pay a few more euros for each show you attend. Sometimes you'll see classic drama (in Dutch), but art or dance performances are also frequently shown, where language is less important. Popular comedians and actors also frequently try out new material here. This year the Gabber Opera, a nostalgic look back at Dutch music from the 1990s, promises to be one of the festival's main attractions. The paid performances are held in tents, but these are surrounded by a large area of pavement cafés, street theatre, a carousel and other entertainment.
