In a posh neighbourhood just outside the city centre you'll find this alternative pub with strong left wing political leanings. Until recently it illegally employed asylum seekers who had been denied residency in the Netherlands, in protest of Dutch asylum policy. The unlucky employees were subsequently rounded up by the immigration service. The cuisine on Sundays is strictly vegetarian, the tips are given to charity on a monthly basis and you can freely take (or leave) books at the BookCrossing bookshelf. Even if this kind of activism isn't your cup of tea, the supply of cheap organic beers and good wines will have you rethinking your conservative views in no time. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a cosy living room and the music is turned down enough for a good conversation. The clientele is somewhat older than you would expect in an Utrecht pub. In other words, the number of middle-aged hippies is above average.
