Dutch gifts
more than a year agoThe orange jersey was already popular in the 1970s when the Netherlands finished in the World Cups of 1974 and 1978 as runners up. Despite being second best, it gave the Dutch footballers and their fans an enormous sense of pride. Although Johan Cruijff is probarly the best player in Dutch football history, in 1988 another generation of football stars gained a crowning achievement. With goals from AC Milan-stars Marco van Basten (who doesn't remember the incredible volley) and the strong header of The Black Tulip Ruud Gullit, Holland beat the Soviet Union .
These two retro shirts are already incredibly popular throughout the world, but since the World Cup 2010 in South Africa they've taken on even more significance. Coach Bert van Marwijk's team surprised the rest of the world by once again gaining second place, just shy of World Cup glory. After beating Denmark, Japan, Cameroon, Slovakia, Brazil and Uruguay the Dutch reached the final for the third time in their history. Unluckily Spain was a better side and defeated the orange men in extra time. But players like Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Dirk Kuijt displayed their amazing talent. Their shirts are also for sale at many kiosks throughout Holland, but be prepared to pay between €50 and €80 for an authentic strip. You can even order them with your own name on it. Naturally, illegal copies from China, India, Bangladesh and other lousy football nations are much cheaper.
