Although not what one would call luxurious, one of the most charming boutique hotels on the island can be found near the Waaigat at the edge of the colourful Pietermaai district. This converted monastery, dating back to 1932, has undergone a complete renovation and since 2009 Hotel ‘t Klooster has offered 24 guest rooms of varying comfort and size. Luckily you can still see remnants of its 20th-century past including black and white photos of monks in the outdoor shower. Its tranquil, tropical courtyard and plunge pool are situated in the middle of this historic UNESCO World Heritage City building creating a secluded oasis in which to relax. Highly recommended.
