If you keep following the popular Haarlemmerdijk shopping street in the Jordaan past the Haarlemmerplein you’ll eventually run into Westerpark, which is flanked by a canal on one side and train tracks and housing estates on the other. On one end you’ll find a water feature, a children’s playground and lots of walking and bike paths, while the far side is a vast open space popular with picnickers and kids honing their football skills. Just beyond the park is the Westergafabriek, a former industrial zone that has been reclaimed by cafés, clubs and galleries.
