This place looks like some youngsters inherited the family bar and gave it a funky, contemporary upgrade. Floral print wallpaper covers the far wall and if you’re wondering why it’s so bright back there, it’s natural illumination courtesy of a large skylight that’s decorated with an art nouveau-style painting of a mermaid. Staff place drinks on raised platforms on the bar so as not to knock over the huge stacks of glasses piled up next the to the beer taps. A young and boisterous crowd listens to rock music here at the weekend but it’s usually not too difficult to get a table inside or a chair outside. IJ brewery beers are available as well as some good Belgian options.
