Amsterdam is a truly multicultural town, but this is rarely reflected at local restaurants where every venue tends to have its own regulars representing a certain segment of society. Alverna, which is popular with people from diverse backgrounds and ethnic groups, is a welcome exception to the rule. Young and old come here to enjoy the sunshine on the largest terrace in Amsterdam, but if you decide to pop over make sure to clear your schedule as the staff seem to be more interested in playing hide-and-seek than offering decent service.
