The Bonaire Marine Park contains 89 official dive sites and experienced divers can take advantage of easy shore diving in this Diver’s Paradise. You can get started by visiting one of Bonaire’s many dive centres for your required Marine Park orientation and buoyancy check dive. Whatever itinerary you choose, finding your way around is easy. The names of the dive sites are posted on yellow painted stones on the coastal roads running north and south of Kralendijk. All sites are inside protected waters which are host to an amazing variety of fish and marine life. Dive sites to the north of Kralendijk feature more dramatic drop offs like the Cliff (one of Bonaire’s only wall dives) and Karpata, both of which are a wide-angle photographer’s dream. The reef begins very close to shore where the stony beaches serve as accessible points of entry for most divers. Adrenaline junkies can brave Oil Slick Leap and take a giant step off of a stone outcrop to enter the underwater site. A ladder is used to exit the water. There are a few sites in the north, such as Rappel and Bloodlet, that can only be reached by boat. The dive sites to the south of Kralendik have a long, gentle sand slopes before the coral cover begins. Several sites like Angel City and The Invisibles have double reef systems. Another must-dive is the Wreck of the Hilma Hooker and no visit to Bonaire is complete without a visit to the pristine reef of world famous Klein Bonaire. This small, uninhabited island is only a short boat ride away.
