Museum of Oriental Art (Museo d’Arte Orientale Edoardo Chiossone)

Follow the path up through the gardens in Piazza Corvetto and you’ll eventually come to the Museum of Oriental Art. Unlike many collections in Genoa which are housed in private homes or historic palaces, these oriental exhibits are all tastefully displayed in a purpose built museum which is worth the climb itself! Once inside your path continues around the beautiful open-space with gentle steps through various levels. The collection was amassed in Japan by Edoardo Chiossone in the late 1800s and brought to Italy in 1905 with most items dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Exhibits include giant meditating Buddhas on the ground floor, samurai uniforms and armour, ceramics, netsukes, theatre masks and weapons.
