This building used to be the lazaret of the city and it dates back to the 16th century. It was built in what was then a completely isolated area, far from the city and was intended to keep people and goods coming from the sea, which needed to be quarantined. This was a common practice of the time and the idea was to prevent the spreading of epidemics carried by ships and sailors. The structure is currently used for concerts, theatre performances, temporary exhibitions and festivals of different kinds.
