Over the last few years the 'Kapana' district (which means The Trap) has become a popular attraction not just especially among the younger more arty generation, both local and visiting travellers.
In days gone by this is where craftsmen lived and worked, at the foot of the upmarket old town. The bid to revive the region was strongly linked to recreating a crafts district where artisans could work and sell their ware. unfortunately as the popularity of the district grows so the artisan work shops are being sidelined and replaced by bars, cafes and restaurants. The bi-annual Kapana arts Fest is proving a big magnet for locals and those in other Bulgarian cities.
