Plovdiv City Art Gallery boasts the second largest and most important works of art in Bulgaria after the National Gallery. Spread over 7 buildings with 6 permanent exhibitions. Located in the building of the former girl's grammar school (architect Joseph Schnitter), the permanent exhibition of the City Art Gallery features sculptures, paintings and photographs by Bulgarian artists chronologically from 1812 to the present day. There are also Japanese engravings and models of European art.
