Born in the Plovdiv region, Zlatyu Boyadzhiev is one of Bulgaria's most famous artists. 71 of his works are exhibited in the house of Dr Stoyan Chomakov. To be honest, the house itself is not one of the best in the Old Town, rather dull and tatty inside with hardly any furniture but the enormous colourful paintings, particularly on the second floor, do provide an insight into everyday life in the Bulgaria of the past century.

Pastoral scenes are painted in an almost naivist style, the numerous portrayals of Plovdiv show the city in a new light and there are some interesting comments on the Communist period, such as the painting that shows the farmers slaughtering a pig while above them wait the civil servants with their empty bowls.
