Located just off ul. Krakowska next to the Church of the Holy Family, this unique and original piece of public art. One of several water fountain installations throughout the city - this one is unusual as it is a model of the solar system, designed by Tarnów architect Artur Grodziński. At the center of the fountain is the Sun, from which streams of water emanate, representing rays of sunlight. The planets, symbolized by large stone spheres (the largest with a diameter of 120 cm is Jupiter, the Earth is 70 cm in diameter), move like real celestial bodies thanks to the pressure of the water, rotating around their own axis. The background for the solar system diagram is black basalt. Other fountains can be found on the market square, Bernardyńska street and Sanguszko park but this one, with its large three-dimensional steel and glass orb representing the sun at its centre, the planets arranged around it proportionally according to size and distance, with orbits tracked in steel and the planets themselves made of massive pieces of polished marble, which rotate (just like the real planets!) is certainly eye-catching. Drop by after dark and you'll find it illuminated. Summer only.
