Every year we celebrate Gauteng's jacaranda spring with a photo competition, asking our readers to share their favourite pictures of the blooming jacarandas with us on Instagram. From hundreds of images we then narrow down the year's most spectacular shots to a list of 10 finalists with the top three winners chosen by popular vote. Everyone who shows their appreciation in our vote for the best picture of the year will also be entered into a prize draw, meaning there are even more chances to win.
What can I win at #JacarandaInYourPocket 2022?
We love sharing amazing prizes and this year we have some incredible local hotel experiences for our first, second and third place photography winners courtesy of three top Rosebank accommodation establishments: Radisson Red Rosebank, voco Hotel Johannesburg and The Tyrwhitt. Everyone who votes for their favourite finalists is also entered into our draw for some fun prizes.
First place photography prize
Two-night midweek stay in a three-bedroom penthouse apartment at The Tyrwhitt in Rosebank.The value of this prize is R17 000.
Second place photography prize
Two-night stay for two in a superior room at voco Johannesburg Rosebank, including breakfast.The value of this prize is R6 740.
Third place photography prize
One-night stay for two at Radisson RED Rosebank, including breakfast, a sharing platter on the RED Roof, and arrival drink.The value of this prize is R4 050
Fourth place photography prize
Lunch for you and five friends at The Playground Market in Braamfontein, including a bottle of bubbly.The value of this prize is R4000

The photo competition is open for entries from Thu Oct 13 until Mon Nov 14.
Finalists will be announced on Nov 17 and voting will then be open until Nov 23.
The winner and runners-up will be announced on Instagram on Thu Nov 24.
Jacaranda photo walks, tours and experiences
This year's #jacarandainyourpocket2022 campaign is in partnership with Gautrain and we have teamed up with City Sightseeing Red Bus, Radisson RED Rosebank, The Tyrwhitt, The Playground, Veldskoen and voco Johannesburg in Rosebank to run six unique jacaranda-themed experiences around Gauteng with a focus on bloom spotting and photography. Where to find Gauteng's best jacaranda viewpoints
There are jacarandas blooming across the province and we've teamed up with Gautrain – the easiest way to travel between two blooming cities – to help us spread the news.Using Gautrain, in Pretoria get off at Pretoria Station and take a walk through the historic city centre in full bloom, or ride one more stop to Hatfield and explore the scenic streets of Arcadia and Brooklyn. Other popular jacaranda destinations include the suburbs of Waterkloof, Groenkloof, Sunnyside, Riviera and Muckleneuk.
In Joburg there's a huge concentration of blooming jacaranda streets on the doorstep of the Rosebank Gautrain station, especially in and around Melrose, Dunkeld and Parkwood, just five minutes walk from the station. Other famous Joburg jacaranda suburbs include Kensington, Parkview, Greenside, Melville, Parktown, Saxonwold and Westcliff.
