Cult T-shirts by Lazi Mathebula at 44 Stanley
Illustrator, designer and art director Lazi Mathebula's cult T-shirt label Beautiful Boys has opened a store at 44 Stanley and their distinctive T-shirts and sweaters are positively flying off the shelves. The brand name Beautiful Boys is 'a call to action for black boys and men to recognise the beauty within themselves' and celebrate the practice of being 'concerned, thoughtful, sensitive, ambitious and a protector of heritage'. We're in love with their latest limited edition monochrome range 'Under Water'.
More weekend markets reopening
After restrictions on alcohol sales were gradually lifted this month, more of Joburg's weekend markets are returning. The weekly Rosebank Sunday Market and the outdoors organic-focused Bryanston Market have both already been open since January. Now the food-focused Fourways Farmers Market in Modderfontein is opening again on Saturdays and Sundays and the open artist studio celebration First Sundays at Victoria Yards is also back. The next edition of the Walala Wasala market at Melville's 27 Boxes is scheduled to take place on Saturday March 6.Vintage fashion comes to Mall of Africa
Thrift shopping continues its march into the mainstream with a new vintage second-hand clothing store opening in the gigantic Mall of Africa. Thrifts By Flav is a second-hand clothing store that started out life on Instagram in 2018 led by thrift fanatic Flavia who has created a powerful vintage brand that is all about sustainable shopping. The Thrifts by Flav store stocks a hand-picked selection of retro clothing including lots of 1990s influenced button-ups, corduroy jackets and reworked denim accessories.
