Apollo

  ul. Ratajczaka 18 ,   Old Town          (+48) 61 851 76 34     more than a year ago
Originally built over 100 years ago, this cinema was renamed ‘Metropolis’ by the Nazis, before they apparently tired of it and burned it down. Today, one of the things that separates Apollo from its rivals is its beautiful architecture and facade which wouldn’t look too out of place next to the Great Theatre (Teatr Wielki) up on ul Fredry. The foyer is quite a formal affair with tiled flooring, framed posters and a bar area. With two modern rooms (the larger seating 390 people and the smaller seating 90) and fantastic acoustics, Apollo does feel slightly more mainstream than some of the Poz’s other indie cinemas, but who’s to say that’s a bad thing? The ambitious repertoire isn’t limited to film screenings, but also includes performances by local theatre and cabaret groups, plus the occasional concert or dance troupe.
