Lublin

Saxon Garden

  Aleje Racławickie 14     28 May 2024
Ogród Saski (ENG: Saxon Garden) was created on the plateau of the former Dominican Fields, near the Warsaw Route in 1837, and its main founder and coordinator was Feliks Bieczyński. Until 1837 Lublin did not have a city park, and the three-hectare city square created in 1827 did not fulfil its role, mainly due to frequent flooding. When planning the architecture and the natural layout of the park, Bieczyński based his design on the park projects existing in other cities, with particular emphasis on the Czartoryski park in Puławy, which was already fully formed and was one of the most beautiful parks of its kind in Poland. The biggest advantage of the park under construction was its shape with numerous natural valleys making it possible to introduce many species of herbaceous plants, trees and shrubs.
