Whether you're in Sydney, New York or Tokyo, tourist information offices are typically rather a dull affair. Maps and event pamphlets collecting dust, staff doing the bare minimum and only recommending the most popular sights without much consideration for the traveller's individual interests. It's circumstances like this that make tourists bypass the very place that could potentially make their visit an unforgettable experience...and that really shouldn't be the case!

Fortunately, Lublin Metropolitan Tourism Organisation (LOTML) could not be further from this. Located in a historic building in the shadow of Kraków Gate, the office space resembles more of a café than a sterile souvenir shop and desk set-up. The staff are young and energetic, not to mention incredibly enthusiastic about their hometown. Aside from their initiative to get to know the individual traveller and make recommendations, they will even go the extra mile and look up bus timetables for you if needed. The organisation has also aimed to be innovative in the way it promotes the city. Perhaps the best example of this are the 'places of inspiration' that they've identified for visitors. These are not necessarily the most popular venues or just limited to 'attractions' - these are a curation of sights, sounds and tastes. For this reason, Lublin's smaller businesses and institutions with unique talents are given a chance to be discovered and contribute to the city's identity. Those planning on sticking to Trip Advisor and online recommendations are, quite frankly, doing themselves a disservice by not stopping by this tourist information point! The only shortcoming, however, is their lack of disabled access because of the building's historic status.
