This veteran venue has been going strong for over 25 years, but unlike some other pre-IYP venues, there appears to be an active effort to improve things and get with the times, at least recently. Once a dark, industrial cellar bar, Black Gallery resembled a literal trip to the Underworld. Modest renovations have finally done away with the grotty toilets, the courtyard garden has never looked better, and you can even pay with a card nowadays. Though a significant portion of their clientele have been coming here since their student days in the 90s and early-00s, BG's vulgar but universal 'Fuck COVID + Putin' sidewalk sign also draws in a mix of punters, backpackers, nutcases and non-conformists that keep the same old witchy spirit of this place intact. In the spring and summer (and even autumn if they keep it open), this is legitimately one of the best beer gardens in the Old Town, full of grapevines, candlelight and even a mezzanine level with treehouse vibes. Downstairs it's a classic Cracovian cellar dive bar full of no frills furnishings, antique picture frames, random art and rock music, and it stays open super late on weekends. If you pine for the unpretentious attitude many Kraków bars had in the early-00s, you can still find it here.
