Open from June 22nd until September 9th. Wrocław’s newest swimming area, the 17-hectare Kopalnia (The Mine), opened in the summer of 2016 to a crowd happy to get out of the hot city, but critical of the road infrastructure leading to these twin reservoirs in an old surface mine - apparently traffic jams clogged up the narrow access road completely on busier days. A better way to get here might be to rent a bike if you’re willing to brave a (mostly flat) 16 km ride; alternatively, take a train from the main railway station or Zachodnia station to Szewce, from where it’s a half hour walk. Kopalnia is divided into four zones: beach (sunbathing and swimming), beach club (DJ parties), bay (barbecue area and fishing), and island (pets allowed). Kayak rentals, volleyball equipment, and food vendors are all available on-site.
